Sri Selliah Memorial Trust is a non-profit Non Governmental Organization functioning since 1993 for the development of rural, tribal women and children. Sri Selliah was born in an ordinary family but rose to occupy a very prominent position in the International Labour Organization (ILO). He worked as Regional Advisor in the ILO, New Delhi on labour welfare and issues relating to the rural and plantation workers. His love for the rural and plantation workers was immense and he worked tirelessly for their welfare throughout his life. Hence this trust was formed in his name to carry on his work. Another important achievement in his life was the establishment of the Plantation Workers Industrial Institutes at Gudalur and Coonoor, in The Nilgiri District. Ms.Selvarani Rajaratnam daughter of Sri Selliah and an advocate, is the Managing Trustee of the trust.

Sri Selliah Memorial Trust is working in Trichy and Perambalur drought prone rural area. Most of the families in this area depend on daily wages and rain fed cultivation. Every year migration takes place to other districts for seasonal works. Because of this situation SSM Trust started to work in this area.

Our Objectives

• To create awakening, educate and organize the rural masses to uphold their rights and privileges.
• To conduct medical Camps, create awareness to prevent HIV/AIDS in the rural and tribal areas and eventually eradicate.
• To Prevent child labour, organize women in Self Help Groups/ Joint Liability Groups and train them to become self supporting and to form networking and federations.
• To establish schools, vocational training centers for the physically and intellectually challenged children.
• To establish boarding, hostels, educational institutions, micro credit institutions, training centers to provide, knowledge and skills in handicrafts and modern agricultural practices.
• To undertake all such welfare activities, to improve the economic and social conditions of the rural poor
• To promote organic farming.
• To promote watershed management.
• To publish books and journals and to create awareness among the poor.
